Be-friending the immeasurable2022
‘Befriending the immeasurable’ is a project initiating to break boundaries between human and the non-human by realising the role of the body as mediator between the two. Here, Immeasurable is a term used to define the beings in the natural world who cannot be measured. In this project, they are the land, the sky andthe birds.
The project is inspired from the ancient ritual of Kolam, a ritual practiced by millions of women in South India who draw a geometric pattern on the floor every morning outside their homes. Made from rice powder, it is eaten by the birds, ants and the insects, acting as a threshold space between human and the non-human. Designing her own practice through creating a language with shapes and patterns.
Deepali initiates to bring back our lost connection to the immeasurable by creating a durational performance of her personal practice in the built environment of a city. Where urban environment is constructed by and for humans, how will it look like to welcome meaningful relationships with the non-human?
